May 11th, 2008 by ALVIN SOONG
This year, some of my clients had forgotten what to do when involved in a motor accident, since there are some minor changes with this year’s report system, I remind to do the following again:
1. FIll up the SIngapore Accident Statement jointly with the other party.
2. Call NTUC INCOME Hotline at 67886616 for advice and the location of nearest IDAC (Independent Damage Assessment Centre)
3, Proceed within 24 hrs to IDAC where they will be assisted.
4. Make a police report if accident involves:
any injury; damage to government vehicle/government property; foreign vehicle; pedestrain/cyclist, a hit and run party, loss of vehicle.
5. At IDAC, policyholders should file the accident reporting to GIA and submit claim to NTUC INCOME electronically.
At NTUC INCOME repair Quality workshop, they would be given 9mths warranty. For vehicles 3 yrs or older, the invovled vehicle in the workshop will be replaced with good reconditioned parts,
Should there be any damages to the courtesy car during usage, pls inform NTUC INCOME 67886616 immediately.
Summary 3 steps when involved in accident
1. Record details of other driver. Take 6 photos of each car.
2. Report to IDAC within 24 hrs
3. Settle with 3rd part for MINOR damages. Protect NCD.
When office receives a summon from 3rd party lawyer with regards to 3rd part claim , the office will send the Writ of Summons to served to the insured as the defendant by the 3rd party lawyer. Due to limited time frame for insured to file defence, the lawyer will be instructed to act on behalf of insured. Depending on merits and evidence, office will decide to settle or fight the claim.
NTUC INCOME will step in and arbitrage as best as it can. The vehicle will be inspected and adjudged by an independent assessor or qualified motor engineer. If still not resolved, case is referred to FIDRec (Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre Ltd). NTUC INCOME will adpot the Barometer of LIability Assessment (BOLA, which is introduced by GIA and binding among insurers) to determine to percentage of liablity.
