Management Strategies for Loss of Speech

When approached, the speech language-pathologist may try to analyze the problems related to the loss of speech and finally assist in the planning of therapy for rectifying the problem.
Speech language consultants are available in most of the countries and when consulted, the assistance will be provided in a systematic manner.
If the speech loss is due to severe infections, then antibiotics with broad spectrum antibiotics will be useful.
Similarly, when infections are suspected, the anti inflammatory agents may be given to reduce the inflammatory changes in and around the vocal cords.
Warm water with saline gurgling may be of useful in reducing the infections based inflammations in the vocal tract.
If the injury to vocal cord is made due to misuse of vocal cords, then the rest with antibiotic administration will be of helpful in making a fast recovery.
To prevent the loss of speech, one should not abuse or misuse the vocal cords. Give rest if you have to sing or talk in a more continuous manner.
Avoid irritant cool drinks or solutions and this helps to prevent the injuries to the voice box or vocal cord.
